Preparing for the Work

If you will be living on the premises during your remodeling project prepare in advance for the inconveniences that may occur. By doing so, you will be able to avoid most frustrations, conflicts and misunderstandings which will make the project go more smoothly from your point of view.

1. PROTECT

...And cover your furniture and carpets that will exposed in the work area. We will make every effort to avoid damage to your property but any property left where men are working may be at risk. It is necessary that you take the responsibility for protecting and removing such items.

2. REMOVE

...All pictures, artwork, mirrors, and drapes from the work area and adjacent walls before the work begins. Because dust is an inevitable by-product of remodeling it is far easier to take them out of the area than it is to clean and dust later.

3. REMOVE AND PUT IN SAFEKEEPING

...Any and all valuables such as jewelry, cash, coin collections, etc. Although we do not tolerate any foul play by our contractors we kindly ask that you secure these items on your premises prior to a project's start.

4. REMOVE FROM THE WORK AREA

...And access routes all plants and other objects of value such as glass-top furniture, vases, lawn ornaments, etc., that you wish to preserve. We will be as careful as possible, but any revisions or corrections to grass, landscaping, etc., are not part of our scope of work.

5. SECURE YOUR PETS

...Cats are, by nature, curious. There have been instances of animals trapped inside walls and floor cavities while they were exploring. We, of course, get the animals safely out but are not responsible for the expense of doing so. Dogs will normally protect your house from strangers and our construction crews are strangers to them. We do not want any confrontations or lost pets!

6. MAKE ARRANGEMENTS

...with our Project Manager to allow crews access to the work area Monday through Friday 8AM to 6PM (and weekends by mutual consent).

PLEASE NOTE: If our workers cannot gain access to the work area on the arranged day, as much as half a day of work may, ultimately, be lost in moving that crew to another project. The crew must be paid and you may be subject to the cost.

7. CONTRACTOR DON'TS

...Our Contractors are instructed not to use your tools, including but not limited to: hand tools, electric tools, ladders, hoses, wheelbarrows and the like. They are also instructed not to use your facilities such as restrooms and phones.

8. CHECK YOUR INSURANCE

...Although we carry our own insurance that covers your project, it is advisable to check your homeowners' insurance policy for adequate coverage against all risks during construction as well as coverage of any additional value in your home as a result of your remodeling.
